Announcements:
3/31/09-Yes, it appears like the people who own Hatsey are condescending.
"We'll call in a month when she's bred" they said. That was going on five months ago. Though, in retrospect, they were pretty odd when we were there also. Good thing we hadn't actually given them money.
I want a dairy goat. T-T I'm considering Nigerian Dwarf or LaMancha.
Have I told anyone that I'm willing to sell anyone but Obsidian, Skye, and Cyrano? Well, I am! Though, I won't sell Saddles, Ruth, or Fourteen for meat. There's too sweet for that. :-)
1/15/09-Now it is the New Year! XD
I uploaded some new pictures for Fourteen, Skye, and Ruth, along with a Barn Photo of one of our chickens. I'll be uploading some new profile pictures of nearly everybody within the week. Hopefully. >_>
12/31/08-Ooooh! It's almost the New Year! :-D Anyway, I am taking Bristle and Capra to the meat processor, so if you want high quality lean goat meat at a reasonable price, then reserve some today!
Also, we put it an offer for a dairy goat! She is a Nubian/Alpine experimental, and is about two years old. We are working on her name. It was originally Hatsey, but we didn't like that very much. Have any suggestions? We'll be going to pick her up from the dairy once she has been bred.
Lastly, Dahlia has been sold! Congratulations to Mrs.Ringers on having this beautiful black doeling! She will add wonderful color and new genetics to your herd.
11/10/08-The vet came today, and Toblerone, Impala, and Ghirardelli are now castrated. They all have wether status now, to their unhappiness. A burdizzo is slightly painful methinks.
The llama, Sparky, was also castrated, though he was knocked out. :-D
10/25/08-You know, when God takes something away from you, He always gives it back when you've learned your lesson. We went today to a friend of ours to pick up the Blue-eyed Lady I was talking about, and found that one of their maiden does had kidded on the 21st and abandoned her two kids, a buckling and doeling. Sadly, they lost the buckling, but the doeling was healthy and cute. They asked us to take the doeling, free of charge. They're an older couple, and just weren't capable of taking care of her like they deserved, so we agreed. Instead of going home with a single doe, we went back with two. Goats have a way of doing that I've noticed. You can never have just one. :-D
Anyway, the Blue-eyed Lady's name is Skye, and the doeling's name is Ruth. We'll have pictures of them up eventually, though I will go ahead and put their information up. ^_^
10/20/08-I am heartbroken to say that one of the 08' goat babies, Claire, died today. I found her in the barn this morning, already dead. She was buried beside our llama, Thunder. I'll be making a Memories page to commemorate the animals that live and frolic in our memories, but no longer before our eyes. When you take care of life, there will always be the opposite side of the coin.
9/2/08-I've updated the For Sale page. I've decided to only keep Silverthorn and Whisper, out of all the 2008 goat babies, and have put Claire up for sale.
8/23/08-This is the Barn Queen speaking. I've finished putting up all of the pictures dotted around the site, of which I am pleased. The Terms and Tips page is finished, so if you're new to goats, you might mind a bit of useful information in there. Also, we have several GOATS FOR SALE, so please stop by the For Sale page to see them.

Welcome to Rampant Raven Ranch. We are a small, family run ranch set in central Texas hill country. We raise non-purebred Boer goats with the aim of producing hardy, beautiful, and well-mannered goats, without taking the problems that can often arise from purebred Boer stock.

Raven Ranch was started the spring of 2006 when we bought a horse from a neighbor and needed a place to keep him. We built a barn, fenced in our pasture, and brought our horse over. Not long after, another horse, and six Boer goats were added to the list. Five of those goats are still with us. Chickens came soon after, along with two llamas. We originally bought our goats as lawn mowers, and they have done their job beautifully. Now that there is no more land to clear, we have gone to breeding them. It is a pleasurable and fulfilling thing, and we all have gotten great joy out of them.

Thank you very much for stopping by Rampant Raven Ranch.
